Well a lot of you updated to 3.0 over the last couple of days, but you may have noticed that your tethering option under settings - > network is still not showing up.

Ok so its been 1 hour since release i though i should put together a guide on how to jailbreak 2.1 using the dev's team official method in WINDOWS. If you want to run 2.1 then you will need to update to 2.1 with itunes 8 first. Remeber this updates your baseband, keep that in mind if you want to unlock in the future.

Files that you will need.QuickPWN 2.1 GUI
Apple 2.1 Firmware 2G or 3G or iTouch (1st gen)
Grab both these files and dump them on your desktop.
Extract the QuickPWN 2.1 zip file and launch QuickPwn.exe you should see this screen pop up.
Connect your device it, you should see this
Click blue right arrow
Select firmware for your device.
QuickPWN will hash the file when done you will see green checkmark.
Click blue arrow again
Blue arrow again.
The process will then start.
Follow onscreen instructions to put phone into DFU mode.
Go get a beer, coffee whatever come back in 10 minutes and your phone will be running 2.1 with baseband updated.

Guitar Hero on Iphone / Itouch
This is for all the guitar hero fanatics out there who cant go without it just like me. This guide will discuss how to transfor the game tab tab into the closest thing to Guiatar hero for the iPhone.
This ARTICLE has been REWRITTEN ON SEPT 18TH as requested.
Your Iphone / Touch will have to be jailbroken and running 2.X firmware we're doing it on a 2.1 phone.
You will need SSH also installed on your iphone or touch. View our Guide
Step 1.
Goto the app store on your phone and install 'tab tab revenge' or use iTunes to install it.
Step 2.
Download Guitar Hero Tap Tap Version from here and extract it to your desktop.
Step 3.
Connect to your device, there are various ways of doing this weather you are using a mac or a windows pc or linux. We are using windows over usb method since its 5 times quicker then over wifi.
Use our guide here if you are using windows like we are.
Step 4.
After you are connected you have 2 windows one on the left and one on the right. On the right browse to /private/var/mobile/Applications
here you will have random characters divided by 4 dashes such as XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXX You will need to click though each of them to find the one that contains Tap Tap.app folder inside it. On the left window browse to where you extracted GH3.zip on your desktop.
Ok here we are going to copy 4 sets of files.
1 - Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (these files must be placed in Tap Tap.app) on the left to the Tap Tap.app folder on the right(on the iphone)
you will get prompted to overwrite the files
click yes to all for all 4 steps
2. Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (These files must be placed in Aweso.ttrTheme) on the left to the Aweso.ttrTheme folder on the right(on the iphone)
3. Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (These files must be placed in Taps) on the left to the "Tap Tab.app/Tracks/Taps" folder on the right
4. Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (These files must be placed in Music) on the left to the "Tap Tab.app/Tracks/Music" folder on the right
Reboot the phone
Enjoy the game.
Currently 3 Guitar hero songs but more coming soon.
Bulls On Parade (hard).tap
Metallica One (extreme).tap
Hit Me With Your Best Shot (medium).tap

Seems like this hack keeps cydia from updating.
To revert to stock host file, simpy copy the file back off the iphone and replace the content with this :

# Host Database

# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.

127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost
Then save the file and upload it back to the phone and reboot it. Cydia should now update.
Ok just came across this in the AM, and am very excited. Although Iphone3G browsing is not very slow, there are certain times you hit an area where it only has Edge coverage. And when you load a webpage full of javascript ads your load times per page are horrible. Well there is not a solution. Simply by replacing the host file with the updated host file, you will block majority of the advertisers, the host file will redirect them locally. It works on my phone running firmware 2.1, and should work for you until you do a restore then you will have to do this again.
Update : to get categories to work remove "127.0.0.1 mm.admob.com" from my adblock host file

2. Browse to /private/etc on the iphone
3. Copy over the new host file. Download from here.

Basically this tutorial will go over how to install IPA files on your phone directly without using itunes. We are using an iPhone 3G 2.1 for this tutorial but it will work for any first, second gen iPhone and iTouch. We're going to assume that you have a jailbroken phone already, if you don't head over here for our guide. You can also uninstall any applications just like APPStore apps by holding the icons then hitting the little black X.
INSTALL PART (Only have to do this once, trust me its worth it)
First on your iTouch/iPhone head over to cydia, and install the following.
1. Erica Utilities
2. Safari Download Plug-in
3. UUID Generator
4. BossPrefs
5. SSH
The last piece of the puzzel is called IPAInstall and can be found here.
What you will need to do is install IPAInstall manually.
Connect your Iphone to your home wireless network.
Start WinSCP SSH Client from windows (download here)
You should see this screen, under hostname type in your iPhone/iTouch wireless IP here, and hit select Login. You can find this under Settings - > General - > Network.
When prompted for a username type in "root" without quotes and hit enter.
When prompted for password, type in "alpine" without quotes and hit Enter.
It should log you in and bring up this screen.
Click the drop down where it says root and switch it to /
Now select the Applications shortcut which is the first on the right hand side and double click it. This will bring you to your application folder simular to something below.
On the left hand side browse to where you extracted ipainstall.zip you should have an IPAInstall.app folder, select it and hit F5 you should see this window pop up.
This will copy the application to your phone
Now on the right hand side select the IPAInstall.app folder and hit F9
You should see the properties window show up.
What we want to do here is select the checkmark on the
Now that you are done, the application will still not appear, to make it appear on the springboard download any free app from the appstore. Reboot the phone, You will now see the the IPAInstall Icon on the springboard.
HOWTO USE:
After everything is installed its very simple to use. First start bossprefs.
make sure the download plugin is on (SafariDL)
Next start safari and browse to your favorite IPA download site, we're gonna use themonkeysball.com
You can search or click the downloads link for a list of games and apps.
Select and app and hit download
You should see a window like this pop up.
Hit download again and it should start downloading.
When complete start IPA Installer from the springboard.
Now hit Install IPAs and wait till the phone restarts.
You should now see the application on your springboard

Want to work on your phone from a remote location ? Well now you can. Introducing VNC server for the Iphone / Itouch. I love this software you can give someone a tutorial on how to do something on the phone and they can see the remote screen from accross the world.
VNC server can be found in Cydia.
Currently there are three ways to VNC into the the phone.
1. Over wifi IP
2. Over VFP IP
3. Using Iphone_tunnel to map port 5900 and then access it locally at 127.0.0.1
Launch your vnc viewer can be downloaded here.

Type in the Iphone IP (VPN IP, WIFI Ip, or tunnel IP)
Click Accept on your phone

Seems that most our iphone & itouch 2.1 firmware users are having lots of problems with the applications that were sshed to the phone. Here is why. When you install an IPA file using itunes it refreshes the cache file called "com.apple.mobile.installtion.plist" meaning it refreshes the list of installed apps on your iphone. When you SSH an application to your phone it will not show up. It will still be going by the old cached file of installed apps. However if you install another IPA in itunes, now both apps will show, since you called the refresh.
Well I don't know about you, but i don't want to have to install an app using itunes after everytime i install an app using SSH.
Well we got a solution now called RESPRING
What you need installed:
Mobile Terminal ( cydia - community sources )
Respring (cydia - www.iphone.org.hk/apt )
How it works:
1. Install app / game via SSH
2. start mobile terminal
3. type in "su" without quotes then enter "alpine" for password
4. type in "respring"
Done, now your app should show on the SpringBoard

First you have to have a jailbroken iPhone with openssh installed.
You must then log into your iPhone - I use putty, but any ssh client will work
Navigate to "/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences"
cd /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences
The file that needs work is com.apple.persistentconnection.plist, back it up by typing the following
"cp com.apple.persistentconnection.plist com.apple.persistentconnection.plist.bak"
Once backed up, you need to convert it from binary to xml, type the following:
"plutil -c xml1 com.apple.persistentconnection.plist"
now you can edit it,
"nano com.apple.persistentconnection.plist"
What you are looking for is "integer 900 integer
Now check owner ship, it should be mobile:mobile, if not
"chown mobile:mobile
When done, reboot. All done!
Do note that under settings the Fetch option will show Manual

1) SSH into your iPhone/iPod Touch, navigate to the folder: "/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework"
2) Backup the file "MobileInstallation", just rename it to "MobileInstallation.bak" or copy it to your computer
3) Copy the patched file (In the Crack folder) to "/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework"
4) Set the permissions of the file to 775
NOTE: CHECK AGAIN THAT ITS 775 NOT 755
NOTE: CHECK AGAIN THAT ITS 775 NOT 777
5) Navigate to "/private/var/mobile/"
6) Set permissions to the folder "Applications" to 777
NOTE: Make sure reclusive is checked (meaning it sets all files within the folder to 777)
7) Navigate into the "/private/var/mobile/applications/" folder
8) Create a "Documents" folder in the "/private/var/mobile/applications/" folder
9) Set the permission to 777
10) Navigate to the root level
11) Navigate into the "/Applications/" folder
12) Create a "Documents" folder in the "/Applications/" folder
13) Set permissions to 777
14) Reboot iPhone/iPod Touch
15) Now download one free official app from the appstore
You are all set, to install a cracked IPA all you do is double click it then sync your phone and itunes should now install the cracked IPA

Well its only been hours since Apple released the 2.1 touch & iphone firmware, and we got a process in place that works to get you jailbroken again. We tested this on a iPhone 3G but will work for iphone 2g, 3g and touch. This guide is for Windows ( Jayden)

Update 2 : Note to 3G Users - If you upgrade in iTunes to 2.1 and have intelliscreen installed (or other programs that modify your com.apple.springboard.plist you WILL get the Spinning Wheel of Death after you upgrade and have to restore.

Step 1) Download your files and place them on the desktop.
3g firmware or 2g firmware, or Itouch firmware
quickpwn gui 1.2 for firmware 2.1
2.1.MI.patched.zip updated link
Step 2) Start itunes v8 and connect your phone
Step 3) Select restore or update while holding shift.
This will prompt you to chose a firmware to restore and update, chose your 2.1 firmware file that you downloaded onto your desktop. Select it and press open.
You should see the process start.
When complete you will see.
When this screen pops up your phone should become activated.
Step 6) Start QuickPWN GUI
Click browse
Select your downloaded 2.1 firmware file
Select Installer, Cydias & logos
Click go
process should start
After you hit y for start the process will start after your phone goes into DFU mode, follow the onscreen instructions to put the phone into DFU mode, when it goes into DFU you will see something like the screen below.
Leave the phone alone for 10 minutes let it do its thing till it boots up again. Cydia and installer will be there but not visible yet, so keep going
Step 7) Install Total commander and copy T-PoT.1.1 and 2.1.MI.patched to the total commander's install directory.
Launch the program by executing the exe.
Step 8) On the left hand side browse to your install folder of total commender, default is c:\totalcmd and double click T-Pot.1.1.zip you should see an install pop up, click it
Click OK
Step 9) On the right hand drop down select the bottom -\- selection
then browse to /System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/MobileInstallation.framework
on the left hand side open the the 2.1.MI.patched.zip and copy over the MobileIntallation file.
Confirm to overwrite the file
Step 10) Still in TotalCommander delete /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist
Step 11) Reboot the phone and all is good!
