Search "Winterboard" in Cydia
Winterboard can be summarized as a themeing tool. This small yet powerful app allows the user to change everything such as; icons, wallpapers, dock, status bar. Created by Saurik aka Jay Freeman it is now the leading tool to theme your 2.X iPhone or iPod Touch.
You will of course need a Jailbroken device with cydia installed. See our guide here.
To install a theme on your device follow these instructions.
download winterboard - start cydia - goto search - type winterboard - select and install it by clicking install
download themes - goto sections - here you will find all the theme sections start with Themes(*****) - select one you should see a preview screen shot, if you like it install it
enable theme - start winterboard by hitting icon on desktop - select the theme you will get a check mark, then hit the home button
Your phone will re-spring and your new theme should be in effect.

Search "Status Notifier" in Cydia
Status notifier is an application that takes care of yet another key missed feature by apple in the 2.X firmware. The purpose of notifier is to place notification icons in your top taskbar, notifying you if you have received a message from the following applications:
* Unread Email
* Missed call/voicemail
* Calendar alerts
* SMS: MobileSMS / iRealSMS / biteSMS
* MMS: SwirlyMMS
* IM: BeejiveIM / Fring / Palringo / AOL AIM
* RSS: NetNewsWire, Byline
The application allows the user to toggle each of the notifications on and off, change the time & interval, and toggle the sound on and off. Thing here to remember is don't set it to vibrate every 2 min for everything, because your battery will die very fast if you don't have the phone on you all the time.
You can also add themes to the icons in the status bar, these are also found in cydia, you will need to install Winterboard to enable this feature.

Guitar Hero on Iphone / Itouch
This is for all the guitar hero fanatics out there who cant go without it just like me. This guide will discuss how to transfor the game tab tab into the closest thing to Guiatar hero for the iPhone.
This ARTICLE has been REWRITTEN ON SEPT 18TH as requested.
Your Iphone / Touch will have to be jailbroken and running 2.X firmware we're doing it on a 2.1 phone.
You will need SSH also installed on your iphone or touch. View our Guide
Step 1.
Goto the app store on your phone and install 'tab tab revenge' or use iTunes to install it.
Step 2.
Download Guitar Hero Tap Tap Version from here and extract it to your desktop.
Step 3.
Connect to your device, there are various ways of doing this weather you are using a mac or a windows pc or linux. We are using windows over usb method since its 5 times quicker then over wifi.
Use our guide here if you are using windows like we are.
Step 4.
After you are connected you have 2 windows one on the left and one on the right. On the right browse to /private/var/mobile/Applications
here you will have random characters divided by 4 dashes such as XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXX You will need to click though each of them to find the one that contains Tap Tap.app folder inside it. On the left window browse to where you extracted GH3.zip on your desktop.
Ok here we are going to copy 4 sets of files.
1 - Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (these files must be placed in Tap Tap.app) on the left to the Tap Tap.app folder on the right(on the iphone)
you will get prompted to overwrite the files
click yes to all for all 4 steps
2. Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (These files must be placed in Aweso.ttrTheme) on the left to the Aweso.ttrTheme folder on the right(on the iphone)
3. Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (These files must be placed in Taps) on the left to the "Tap Tab.app/Tracks/Taps" folder on the right
4. Select & Copy all the files from the folder called (These files must be placed in Music) on the left to the "Tap Tab.app/Tracks/Music" folder on the right
Reboot the phone
Enjoy the game.
Currently 3 Guitar hero songs but more coming soon.

We all heard of VLC Player for your PC, well now its here for the iPhone / iTouch. You will need a jailbroken phone with cydia to get it on your phone.
Seems like its only out for beta testing but we got a source that lets you test as well :)
To install:
1. Start Cydia
2. Click Manage
3. Click Sources
4. Click Edit
5. Click Add and add 'www.iphone.org.hk/apt'
6. Goto Changes in cydia and you should see VLC Player at the top click to install

If you can't wait for apple to get their stuff together maybe you want to try an app written by a student. The application is called CopiercIN and is available to download via Cydia. What this application does is basically let you edit text imported from email, sms, notes or files, edit it and export it back out to sms, email, note, or file. Pretty neat trick it works fine with firmware 2.1

Dev Team just announced support for 2.1 firmware. They released a new version of quickpwn and pwnage tool which will make it very easy for mac users to jailbreak their phone. This is the official release from the dev team, no word on windows version yet, but our guide posted yesterday does the trick.

Well we all heard of itunes right ? 99 cents a song. But now we're introducing Dtunes. What's so great about dTunes? Well you get to keep your 99 cents. All songs are free and there hasn't been one I haven't been able to find. Basically the program allows you to download any song you want in high quality mp3 format. We tested over wifi reaching speeds of 750KB/s which is about 6 seconds to download a 4 minute song. Over 3G it runs at about 100KB/s which is about 45 seconds to download any song you want.
dTunes > iTunes

only 2 problems with the software right now.
1. You cant do anything else when listening to downloaded mp3s except download more or the music stops
2. you can't shut the screen of when playing mp3s
but who cares all music is free !!!

The DEV team has announced the new 2.0.3 Pwnage tool for OSX. The jailbreak tool comes equipped with Installer beta 6, cydia and custom boot logos. This has full support for the 2.0.2 firmware and will not update the baseband.

Ok so we've seen many video recorders popping out on the market, we've tried alot of them including iphonevideorecorder, but they all suck, either they are slow, video resolution is crappy or a combination of both. This morning while browsing through cydia like always, we came across the new video recorder from CYCORDER.
We were very happy with the results from this product. I know there are alot of people out there who use the camera on the iphone as a digi cam to snap those pictures of crazy stuff that happens when all you have is the Iphone on you. Well now you can make snazzy videos of interesting stuff while you are on the road.

The CYCORDER video recorder is free and runs on ad promotions in a little top bar of the phone. Yea that might not be great but the price is, FREE. The recorder saves all its files in quicktime uncompressed, what does this mean to you? Well it means files will be big, 30 second video is 12Megabytes. So your 8 Gig Iphone can record for about 5 and a half hours straight !!! No conversion is great because you dont have to wait for the phone to encode the video after you are done, just click stop and start recording another video, simple as that. Why would you want your Iphone to do encoding when you can do it 10 times faster on your pc at home.
Only feature that the applicatoin seems to lack is the ability to share your video's easily and the lack of audio. As of right now you have to SSH into the phone and copy the files out from /var/mobile/Media/Videos folder. Still its the first version, and the video quality is simply amazing.
We took a sample video in the car this morning and it came out fantastic compared to all the other video software out there. Our question is why hasn't apple released something like this in the APPSTORE, obviously the phone can handle it.
Once again Amazing product and can't wait for new updates.

Couple of hours ago i was browsing through cydia to see what's newly released. I came across The Iphone Video Recorder. This was announced on their blog a few weeks ago, and today it is here. The software records at 3 different resolutions at 15 frames per second and encodes videos into Mp4 format. You can test out the demo which allows the full version they advertise an hour to be compressed down to 60 Megabytes. My question is we took a 30 second video, which took about 2 minutes to encode. So does this mean an hour video will take 4 hours to encode? i think your batter will die quicker.
The software allows you to share you video via email or youtube. You can also download to your pc and do playback using the software.

Ok, so here's the deal. We will report on this app because its new and some users enjoy it. Basically the application works as a app launcher. Swipe your finger at the bottom of your screen the scroll up and left or right. We tried this app on our phone and were not impressed.
First when you start Dock by holding the bottom of the screen the next menu appears, then you have to move your finger up to select another sub menu and then again same thing till you get to the app you want t launch. However if your finger slips of for one second you have to restart the process, annoying. Also when you are trying to scroll left or right sometime u come to the end of the screen and you cant lift your finger because u have to restart the process over. But you can try it maybe you guys will have better luck.

Ok so i came accross this application this morning and i think its just fantastic. The company http://www.veiosoft.com/ has just release it on itunes. Basically in a nutshell the program runs a web & ftp server which you can access via wifi. So if you are ever at a friends house and want to grab something they can dump it to the ftp, and if you want to share something they can grab from the ftp or http site. Pretty need it also has support for pdf, doc, etc. It runs 6.99 which is about the cost of 3 coffees.

Well after many reports and testing ourselves with 3 different 3G phones, we are confirming that quickpwn will unlock your 2.0.2 iphone 2G & 3G. You can check out our tutorial here. The tool uses 2.0.1 firmware files to unlock your 2.0.2 Iphone. Your phone will remain unlocked if it was unlocked before and your contacts will stay in tact. I believe this process if far easier then the whole restore itunes deal, and it even talks you through the DFU process.

Nice little tool from the Dev team. The team confirmed that there is no need to restore with custom firmware anymore, and they've been planning this tool for a while. Give it a try, the tool is available only for windows but other platform support is coming soon. You will need to be running version 2.0.1 firmware to be able to use this tool to jailbreak your phone.

Everyone liked the 10-4 option that was carried with alot of carriers, basically texting with voice rather then text. Today Palringo press office has released official word that it now fully supports the press to talk option on the IPHONE. CEO Kerry Ritz states "When we launched Palringo for the iPhone, we said that our vocal IM functionality would be added imminently. We've kept the promise we made to the thousands and thousands of iPhone users who downloaded Palringo and made us one of the most popular free applications from the App Store, he added."

Ok, so below you seen my post on how you can stream from your Itunes library, which is great. But this is better. Why ? Not only can you can you stream all your home content from pictures, movies and music, it does not require A JAILBROKEN phone. So how does it work ? I tested the software today installed the TVersity on my desktop and added my media folders. Next i fired up Safari and browsed to my computers IP, this gave me an IPHONE friendly user interface which shows all my shared content. Click play and viola you're streaming. Tversity actually transcodes your media on the fly so its compatible with Iphone's Safari web browser, Brilliant !!
On top of streaming all your local media TVersity also allows you to stream online content, so online tv stations and online radio feeds can all be streamed to your IPHONE 3G!, once again Brilliant!
Also SOFTWARE IS FREE always great :)

Search "bossPrefs" in Cydia
From the developer’s site: “This native iPhone app is an offshoot of “Services” by Chris Hoffman. The app expands on services by adding some more options and focusing on being a complete preferences replacement. After installing BossPrefs you should be able to remove Customize, SMBPrefs, and Settings icons from your desktop.”
If you don't have this app yet, the go get it!!Let me tell you this is the first tool that i install on a jailbroken touch or iPhone. Boss Prefs makes it easy to get all the info you need with a touch of a couple of buttons. Let me explain in more detail.
Main Screen
Here you have all your toggles,additional toggle buttons can be downloaded from cydia. From this screen you can quickly toggle your 3g, edge, wifi, bluetooth, ssh, etc. Not only that it will also provide the ip of edge, 3g, and wifi right here on the same screen.
Here is the configuration menu which you can customize the visual look of your main screen.
This is the MORE Section located on the top right corner of the main screen.
Here you have the following Settings:
Dock Icons: Allows you to add icons to your boss prefs system tray.
Fix User Dir Permissions: Quick fix for symptoms such as Mail app crashing, summerboard themes not working, notes not savings and other permission issues.
BossPrefs to Double Tap Home: Allows you to launch BossPrefs by double tapping the home key(round key)
Show Free Disk Space: Shows the total space in use on your phone.
Enable numeric Battery: One of my Favs, shows your battery level in a 0-100 percent meter.
Disable Apple App Kill switch: If apple dislikes an app(for whatever reason), they can remove it from your device using a kill switch function.
Hide Icons - Self Explanatory
Power Manage
Fast Respring - For changing things like language that don't require a restart of the springboard
Respring and Lock - Resprings the phone / ipod and locks it
Reboot - Reboots Device
Power Off - Shuts down Device
