Ok so its been 1 hour since release i though i should put together a guide on how to jailbreak 2.1 using the dev's team official method in WINDOWS. If you want to run 2.1 then you will need to update to 2.1 with itunes 8 first. Remeber this updates your baseband, keep that in mind if you want to unlock in the future.

Please email us so we can add you to confirmed users.
Update 14 : 3200 Confirmed users WOOHOO!!!!

Files that you will need.QuickPWN 2.1 GUI
Apple 2.1 Firmware 2G or 3G or iTouch (1st gen)

Grab both these files and dump them on your desktop.

Extract the QuickPWN 2.1 zip file and launch QuickPwn.exe you should see this screen pop up.

Connect your device it, you should see this

Click blue right arrow

Select firmware for your device.

QuickPWN will hash the file when done you will see green checkmark.

Click blue arrow again

Blue arrow again.

The process will then start.

Follow onscreen instructions to put phone into DFU mode.

Go get a beer, coffee whatever come back in 10 minutes and your phone will be running 2.1 with baseband updated.

Thanks again to the DEV Team.

i can't believe it...i had version 2.0.2 and it had locked today...by mistake i restored w/ 2.1 rather than the 2.1 custom and was screwed...3 hours later your post come in and it solved my huge issue...IT WORKS PERFECTLY...thanks a million!!!

   Anonymous Humhead74 -

Awesome app, worked perfectly. Even restored my phone after locking it up multiple times with other jailbreaks. Started with an unlocked, jailbroken, 16Gig, 2G running 2.0.2 went up to restored to downloaded 2.1 file and locked it up, went back and forth from, 2.0 to 2.0.1 to 1.4 a few times. Ran this one and then did a restore and everything is up and running. PROPS, awesome job.

   Anonymous newbee -

Sorry this might sound dumb.
Do I need 2.1 installed on iphone already to upgrade?

   Anonymous MP -

Is this going to install installer and cydia??? So all i have to do is follow the instructions.

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Is there some visual indication in quickpwn that it is working? Because I put the phone into DFU per the program's instructions, and it just sits there.

I know you said to leave it for 10 minutes, but I have no idea if its doing anything or not.

   Blogger Rob -

Props to you. Worked in less than 10 minutes. Thank you.

i just got my iPhone 3G 3 days ago - you guys are the best!!

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Everything works great until it says, "Wait for your iPhone to connect in Recovery Mode..." My iPhone shuts down, and restarts with the USB/iTunes logo (recovery mode) but QuickPwn never moves to the next instruction ("Hold down the Home button for 5 seconds..."). I've tried disconnecting it, I've tried resetting, I've tried recovering via iTunes...but I can never get past "Wait for your iPhone to connect in Recovery Mode..."

Any ideas?

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Oh, and I've tried going into DFU mode (successfully) but Quickpwn never reacts or changes.

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

which itunes ?

   Anonymous Anonymous -

I'm running iTunes 8. Is iTunes involved in this process? Does iTunes have to be open?

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

No should be closed...

DFU mode

can you try another pc ?

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

do you have dot net installed?

iTunes is closed

Unfortunetly, no, I don't have another PC (nor friends in the area)

I'm running .NET 3.5

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

which firmware are you using which os ?

   Anonymous Anonymous -

I'm running XP SP3 and originally upgraded my iPhone to 2.1 via iTunes 8 when it was released a few days back. I'm using "iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw" with QUickpwn

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Well, I followed the directions, and upon rebooting the phone after Quickpwm finished, my phone is stuck at the Quickpwn logo. It's been like that now for a half hour. Any ideas on how to get things working again?

Thanks.

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

hmmm very strange... dfu and back to 2.1 again

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Another 'Confirm'. Process went seamessly (2.0.02 Update via iTunes 8 and then Windows QuickPwn).

Hats off to all you folks that help us pull this off.

Is that for "stuck at Quickpwn logo" or "stuck 'wait for your iPhone to restart in Recovery Mode?" There's two different users asking questions right now.

By the way, thanks for helping us out.

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

both of you throw into DFU and restore to 2.1 make sure the screen is blank when you are in dfu mode not the apple logo

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

its harder to do when its rebooting i know cause i had the same prob but it is possible, you cannot screw up DFU mode you can always enter it

   Anonymous Anonymous -

So go into DFU mode and use iTunes to restore? Do we restore to the standard 2.1?

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

yes standard 2.1 yes in itunes make sure you use itunes 8

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Ok, trying that.

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

ok be back in a bit going to pickup wife from work :P

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Thanks.

First attempt, "iphone could not be restored, unknown error" and my iphone just has a white screen...

Trying again.

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

using the right firmware?

   Anonymous Anonymous -

I can't get to that point. I keep getting the 1601 error when trying to restore using iTunes when the iPhone is in DFU mode.

As far as firmware goes, I was just going to hit "restore" in iTunes 8 and use the generic 2.1. Should I force it to use the downloaded 2.1 firmware?

   Anonymous Anonymous -

I'm the other "Anonymous". I put it into DFU mode, restored, ran Quickpwn again and everything worked this time. Thanks for the help as always.

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Darn it!! Why can't it be that easy for me!?

Ok, I restarted iTunes a few times and got it to recognize the iPhone in DFU mode. Should I use the iTunes restore or 'SHIFT' Restore and select the "iPhone1,2_2.1_5F136_Restore.ipsw" downloaded file?

   Anonymous Anonymous -

I tried both and the iPhone just froze at the white screen again. Trying a standard restore without DFU mode. Then a reboot (PC and iPhone), the QuickPwn. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to go without a Jailbrakeing it. ):

   Anonymous Anonymous -

I've got that same problem where it gets stuck in the ready to pwn screen. Would I be able to do it on another comp that doesn't have my itunes because I don't feel like restoring again?

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Works like a charm. In 10 minutes my iphone was 'jailbreaked'.

   Anonymous Anonymous -

FUCK! I waited for the recovery mode for like 25 minutes and nothing happened. So I tried to do the rest, hold down the buttons as it is said. The phone turns off and now I have to restore my phone :/

How long do I have to wait? :/ It says 10 minutes in the guide of yours.

   Blogger Leech -

Is there a way to upgrade from 2.0.2 to 2.1 without losing the installed apps and settings?

   Anonymous luckboxjr -

Followed instructions to the dot and I'm up and running perfectly! Didn't lose any data. Thanks

First updated to 2.1 through iTunes (not restore, normal update). Then use QuickPwn step by step!

Take Note: As I understand QuickPwn does NOT activate. So you need to have a SIM from authorized carrier.

   Blogger Steven -

Anyone no what to do when it gets stuck at the put phone into recovery mode/dfu step I tried restoring but same thing every time it just stays at preparing your phone for dfu or something like that and never moves on

3 week old 3g iphone upgraded to 2.1 a few days ago. First time every doing a JB. Followed directions and took just under 4 mintues to complete. Phone works perfectly, text work all apps still there and cydia and installer shows up as expected. Now to look around and find the power of JB and what can be done.

Thanks for the great guide.

***Confirmed working perfect on 3g JB***

BTW (that was me above to confirm update) but I just tested out syncing with itunes and was able to sync and backup. 2 thumbs up!

   Anonymous Christopher L -

Hi it works!!!

I have the iphone 2g 1st gen on 2.01 and just upgraded it to 2.1. what I did was update itunes to 8, then update the software to 2.1 in Itunes. Weirdest thing I noticed that when it finished it was unlocked already, but the Apps would not work and the Cydia + Installer icon was not there. So using Quickpwn sorted it out very simply and I have now got 2.1 on my Iphone. By the way, you don't lose any data except for Installer and cydia apps.

   Blogger dung -

Confirmed on 3g iphone, working perfectly. But i still can't connect to itunes when sync my iphone to the computer. still say sim is not activated with this sim. please help, thank in advance.

   Anonymous Nick -

Took a few tries to get the timing right on the reboot into recovery mode, but once I got it right the jailbreak worked perfectly. Thanks!

   Anonymous Anonymous -

Quick Question - Can I install this without installer. I only use Cydia and don't like the installer format. Thanks

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

just goto bossprefs and hide the installer icon...

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

dung you have to let it activate when you update to 2.1 with itunes 8 then goto the jailbreak process

christopher
yea the old method required you to delete a file using total commander which would make cydia and installer appear but the new method using quickpwn mentioned in this article it does this for you so they automatically appear

I have a iPhone 2G 1.1.4 that is jailbroken and activated using iLiberty on Vista. I'm using iTunes 7.5.

Questions:

1. Can I use the above guide if I want to upgrade to 2.1 and keep my jailbroken and activated status?

2. Do I need to upgrade my firmware to 2.1 using iTunes 8.0 or use the custom firmware using QuickPwn?

3. How do I backup my current iPhone information such as Contacts and Music before I start this upgrade process so that I can reuse it later?

4. After I finish running the QuickPwn, can I continue using iTunes 8.0 to upload the music and contacts?

Thank you in advance for your help!!

hi, ok i'm in dire need of help. i have been trying for days to jailbreak my iphone 3g. pwnage tool won't work. Quickpwn i have been able to get to work, that is up until the point where it needs to reboot... the program goes through all the steps everything is fine it even says "i haz success" buy my iphone just goes to a white screen after i put in dfu mode and stays blank for about 10 min and then goes dark. i've restarted the whole process and tried several times and it just won't reboot. i never even see a logo, apple or pwnapple.. please help

   Anonymous Anonymous -

It comes up with an error saying

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."

What do I do???

   Anonymous Anonymous -

umm i m a new guy here
the anonymous above me your answer:
restart your computer and download the application again
the error is caused by some random crap in your registry but restarting usually helps.

what happend to winpwn? i think winpwn is much easier to use and since you lose all your data anyways while upgrading whats the difference?

i still cant jail break it cuz the thing just get stuck in making ipod into recovery mode.

i hope winpwn for 2.1 comes up

1. which headset do you have ?
2. i would update to 2.1 then run this guide
3. only way to keep your stuff is update to 2.1 using 8.0 then run quickpwn like this tut says. if you run a restore your system will be wiped and you will lose your contacts. you cant backup with 7.7.1 and restore on 8
4. yes you can use 8 with quickpwned phone

Excellent doc. The interface was more friendly than I expected and the procedure was spot on; assuming you can read, which I obviously forgot how do to being that I had to retry it once. Which it let me do without issue. The only super minor note is that right before the "DFU mode" step it will ask you if you want to install, Cydia, installer, and/or install new boot logos.

ok if its vibrating twice it means you had uncompatible 2.1 software installed on your phone, simple solution is to put the phone into DFU mode updated to 2.1 and then jailbreak... should add anohter 15 min to the proceess

No problem man, I just really want to jailbreak my iTouch. Just a small suggestion to help out future iTouch users. You might wanna try hosting the firmware on a different site, Sendspace maxes out non-registered users download speeds at 50 kb/s. It's really slow... I was hoping I would finish the download before I left for school but I don't think that's happening.

Hey, i followed all the quickpwn steps to the point where it says finished and tells me to wait for my itouch to restart. i've waited awhile since u said it would take about 10 minutes but it's been about 15 now, i'm not sure if it's just lagging a bit or whatever. any ideas? thanks

   Anonymous Anonymous -

hey, i'm the person who posted directly above this one. i did the whole process over again after my itouch glitched and it worked fine this time. not sure what difference i made since it seemed to be the same steps but nevertheless, i now have a 2.1 hacked itouch. thanks man

This method is a very bad idea.

If you do it this way, you will likely not be able to unlock your phone, all the hard work that the iphone dev team is doing right now will be wasted as your phone won't be able to be unlocked!

Use PwnageTool, not quickpwn.

   Blogger iphone3g-mods -

yea cause we all want to unlock our phones right ? think about it all iphone 3G phones were sold on a 3 year contract so not like your going to be switching providers any time soon, and pwnagetool is for mac not for windows

I think what the original poster means is that you probably should be more obvious in your guide because I now realize I can't unlock my phone because of it... now when i travel i can't bring my iphone with me to use a local SIM.

I believe the iphone-dev team released yet another warning about this today.

"the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application"

I dunno if you can read but this was addressed right when the guide was written.

The first paragraph states

Ok so its been 1 hour since release i though i should put together a guide on how to jailbreak 2.1 using the dev's team official method in WINDOWS. If you want to run 2.1 then you will need to update to 2.1 with itunes 8 first. Remeber this updates your baseband, keep that in mind if you want to unlock in the future.

valentine try moving the error to the side and keep going, seems like a windows update error, i just moodded a phone today same problem, i just moved the "click ok to close box" to the side and kept on going the program still runs.

   Blogger William Kwek -

   Blogger William Kwek -

you cannot downgrade your firmware because the new baseband from 2.2 (modem firmware) is desgined not to work with older versions

megaupload link: http://www.megaupload.com/$$$$$$$

dont post illegal links on my website
the reason i dont have 2.1 firmware for the ipod on here because you cannot get it for free you have to pay 10$ to apple to bring your ipod first gen into version 2.0
you want it google it you will find it in seconds but dont post links on my site
google "iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw index" you will find the file no problem
