Well its only been hours since Apple released the 2.1 touch & iphone firmware, and we got a process in place that works to get you jailbroken again. We tested this on a iPhone 3G but will work for iphone 2g, 3g and touch. This guide is for Windows ( Jayden)
NEW GUIDE HERE USING QUICKPWN 2.1 (EASIER)
Update 2 : Note to 3G Users - If you upgrade in iTunes to 2.1 and have intelliscreen installed (or other programs that modify your com.apple.springboard.plist you WILL get the Spinning Wheel of Death after you upgrade and have to restore.
Update 3 : Thanks to poison
Step 1) Download your files and place them on the desktop.
3g firmware or 2g firmware, or Itouch firmware
quickpwn gui 1.2 for firmware 2.1
2.1.MI.patched.zip updated link
Step 2) Start itunes v8 and connect your phone
Step 3) Select restore or update while holding shift.
This will prompt you to chose a firmware to restore and update, chose your 2.1 firmware file that you downloaded onto your desktop. Select it and press open.
You should see the process start.
When complete you will see.
When this screen pops up your phone should become activated.
Step 6) Start QuickPWN GUI
Click browse
Select your downloaded 2.1 firmware file
Select Installer, Cydias & logos
Click go
process should start
After you hit y for start the process will start after your phone goes into DFU mode, follow the onscreen instructions to put the phone into DFU mode, when it goes into DFU you will see something like the screen below.
Leave the phone alone for 10 minutes let it do its thing till it boots up again. Cydia and installer will be there but not visible yet, so keep going
Step 7) Install Total commander and copy T-PoT.1.1 and 2.1.MI.patched to the total commander's install directory.
Launch the program by executing the exe.
Step 8) On the left hand side browse to your install folder of total commender, default is c:\totalcmd and double click T-Pot.1.1.zip you should see an install pop up, click it
Click OK
Step 9) On the right hand drop down select the bottom -\- selection
then browse to /System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/MobileInstallation.framework
on the left hand side open the the 2.1.MI.patched.zip and copy over the MobileIntallation file.
Confirm to overwrite the file
Step 10) Still in TotalCommander delete /private/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist
Step 11) Reboot the phone and all is good!

| iphone3g-mods - what you need to do is restore back to 2.0.2 remove all apps like winterboard and intelliscreen then try to update to 2.1 again... if you are getting reboots and vibration then its the same thing you updated with programs like winterboard or intelliscreen, so downgrade to 2.0.2, remove the programs and then update again. or just try the process to goto 2.1 but instead of doing an update do a restore, and you wa | ||

| ShadyG - MY GOD....WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??? Seriously, I just spent about 6-7 hours scouring the internet looking for nice, easy instructions to break the Iphone 3g v2.1. EVERYTHING I found was retarded, confusing, not clear......just flat out bad. Then I came across this little guide here.... and I was done in about 15 minutes! on my first try! This guide is PERFECT, i promise you. I could NOT BELIEVE all of the bitching, complaining, and stupid questions people have been leaving.... The bottom line: This guide makes this particular process AS EASY AS IT CAN POSSIBLY BE MADE. What this means is although this is a AWESOME guide, it is still going to take some technical "know-how", and good ol fashioned common since to do what this guide is instructing. From these posts that I have read, it seems a lot of you think that hacking apples Iphone, (which has had Gillionzs spent on security and technology to stop people like you from doing exactly what you are trying to do to it) is a, or should be a VERY EASY, user-friendly task, similar to say.....installing windows update! Well sorry guys! Just cuz you found a guide on google doesn't make this is a common, rookie leveled task! (although...if u DO have half a brain, aren't retarded, can beat the 1st level on the original super mario brothers, aren't the guy who asked this "Are you suggesting that I tell quickpwn I have an ipod, even though I have an Iphone 2g?"..... then with a little bit of patience and concentration, you will be able to get this done in no time!!!! | ||

| ShadyG - N3T It is impossible for me to give u much advice from just a tiny bit of info since I have hardly any experience at all in this iphone scene (I just bought my 3g last night). But I followed these instructions and got it working. The only comment I have is when u say you get an "error and the itunes and USB cord logo" I'm not sure what you mean exactly...But I remember getting that screen, at least twice, but that is not an error...It did that, then continued to work / setup. Im not sure at what point it did that so I can't be more specifific. If I were you I would just keep trying over and over, getting better and better eachtime you go through this guide. | Shawn - This guide is perfect, I did notice I could not access my iPhone in Total Commander after the firmware change. I had to open iTunes and let it find my phone, once it saw my phone I was able to access my phone with Total Commander and make the necessary changes. | ||
